With a 1992 Ford truck, 1 employee and $300, Chris Pettit started Taproot Land Mgmt on January 1, 2006.

Everyday, Taproot strives to become a better organization by providing exceptional service to our clients as well as educating our employees.  All Taproot employees are required to attend seminars, take classes and acquire new and useful certifications to better understand every component of landscape installation and property maintenance.

Our Certifications

By requiring employees to take classes, participate in local seminars, and acquire useful certifications we have found ourselves very knowledgeable and highly skilled.  We can proudly say that we have at least one employee registered with at least one of the certifications below

  • NC BMP Inspector

  • Rain Bird Certified Contractor

  • Kichler Preferred Contractor

Our Staff

Chris Pettit

Prior to beginning this new adventure, Chris was the #2 man at a local landscape company which he helped grow during the years of 1997 to 2005.  With all of those years of experience, Pettit was able to determine the 2 most important aspects of success–customer relationships and respect for employees, both are the cornerstones upon which Taproot has been built.  Pettit is extremely proud of the Taproot organization as a whole, but most importantly, he is proud of the long term relationships they have built with customers and the fact that Taproot has been able to retain 95% of all hired employees since 2006.  Chris and his family reside in Smithfield, NC.

Mario Gangi

Going on his forth full year with Taproot, Mario is one of the leaders for our maintenance division.  Gangi and his crew are responsible for some of Raleigh’s elite properties.  With over 10 years of property maintenance experience, Mario is not only a leader in the field but an invaluable teacher for our employees. He has a keen understanding of turf grass maintenance and pruning of ornamental trees and shrubs.  Mario is a valuable asset to our maintenance team and we look forward to many more years with him on our staff.  In his free time, Mario enjoys riding his 4 wheeler and making designer soaps.

The Rest of the Team

Some things just go without saying…. if you are to be a successful business, you must have great employees. Without our main work force this company would not exist. We have been fortunate to employ the same men for years. At Taproot we value our employees, no matter what level, whether you are a simple laborer or a foreman with years of experience, you are treated with respect and dignity. We feel the way our employees are treated directly influences the manner in which they work. Since we make employee satisfaction #1, you can expect a courteous, hard working, respectful group of men working on your project.

fight against ovarian cancer

Ovarian Cancer is a serious and under-recognized threat to women’s health.  It is the deadliest of the gynecologic cancers and the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths among American women.  It occurs in 1 out of 57 women and kills 14,000 American women each year.  Currently about 50 percent of women diagnosed with OC die from it within five years.  Three out of four cases are detected in the late stage when five-year survival is only 25 percent.

Ovarian cancer is very treatable when detected early, but the vast majority of cases are not diagnosed until the cancer has spread beyond the ovaries.

  • In cases where ovarian cancer is detected before it has spread beyond the ovaries, more than 90 percent of women survive longer than five years.
  • Only 25 percent of the ovarian cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. are detected in the early stages.
  • When diagnosed in advanced stages, the chance of five-year survival is only about 25 percent.
  • Ovarian cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are easily confused with other diseases, and because there is no reliable, easy-to-administer screening tool.
  • Raising public awareness of ovarian cancer by educating women and doctors about the disease saves lives.

Don't lose your aunt Lisa

In memoriam: Lisa m. lenhardt

February 17, 1962 - November 2, 2010

Don’t lose your Aunt Lisa.  Please do your part to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.  Early recognition of symptoms is the best way to save women’s lives.  Without increased education about ovarian cancer, many women and their doctors will continue to ignore or misinterpret the symptoms of the disease.  Recognition of women who are at higher risk for developing ovarian cancer is also important.  Risk factors include increasing age, personal or family history of ovarian, breast, or colon cancer, and not bearing a child.
